In 2016 my good buddy and I decided on a moose and caribou hunt in the Canadian Northwest Territories. The trip was scheduled for September of 2017 and I knew I had to be in top shape as the terrain was mountainous, elevations were over 5,000 feet and I would be hiking 10-15 miles per day with over 50 lbs. of gear.
I met Brandon at my gym and decided to hire him as my personal trainer to prepare me for the trip. I was in average shape for a 60-year old working out several times a week and about 190 lbs….
I started working out 3 times per week with Brandon for several months prior to the trip. He also outlined my cardio workouts when I was not directly at the gym with his presence.
Prior to leaving for my trip I weighed in at 180 with increases in muscle mass and decreases in body fat. I was able to complete this physically demanding 12-day trip with no issues. I fully believe I would not have been able to push myself to get in the type of shape I needed to be in without Brandon.

Working with Brandon for physical and nutritional training was pivotal in my pre and post knee replacement surgery. Brandon combined directions from my physical therapist and his own expertise as a physical trainer to strengthen my quadriceps, gluteal and upper back muscles.

Brandon is one of the best trainers I’ve had the good fortune to work with. He takes the time to listen to you and treat you as an individual. His nutrition and workout plans are not cookie-cutter they are tailored for your individual needs.

After many starts and stops on my fitness journey, I decided I needed some support to really get things going. I was matched with Brandon as my trainer and it was a match made it heaven! I was a bit nervous to start using a trainer, thinking they might have unrealistic expectations of me, push me too hard and I would get hurt as I’m prone to injury. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it and then I wouldn’t want to stick with it. I figured I’d go with it for a 6 – 8 weeks and then reassess. I trained with him for almost 3 years!
In the first 10 minutes of meeting Brandon I was confident that he would be able to help me, I just couldn’t have known then just how much he would. He planned for our sessions taking in to consideration my goals, my constraints (I travel weekly), and my physical limitations. He would tell me what we were going to do for our sessions and how/why these activities were important to our plan. He was thoughtful, intentional and the right balance of encouragement and challenge. He would even text me work out plans to do in Hotels for times when I didn’t have sessions with him because I was on the road!
I could never have achieved on my own what I did with Brandon. Not only did my fitness level improve and my weight go down, I just felt better. I slept better and woke up feeling more well rested. I could pop out of a chair and move around with more ease and confidence than before. Hitting the backside of the 40’s is no joke but we could always find something to laugh about!! I have spent years trying different diets and learning about my medical conditions of PCOS and genetic Insulin Resistance. I learned from trial and error that I felt better when following low carbohydrate and ketogenic principles, but often found that eating this way would only let me lose weight for a short time and only if I kept my routine consistent from day to day. This made life very frustrating being that I travel for work and play music on the weekends, which results in limited food choices and inconsistent daily calorie burn rates. In addition to these problems, I also battle chronic habits of not eating, waiting log times between meals, and high levels of stress. After years of seeking medical advice on these issues, I felt I was alone in my battle because I was often told “just do yoga to reduce your stress and everything will work out” or was accused of cheating on planned diets as the reason my weight kept creeping up. I met Brandon in 2018 after being referred to him by a personal trainer. I had been working with a new exercise plan for 3 months and had seen my weight and body fat percentage consistently rise, rather than fall. I was nervous about having someone yet again tell me that my struggles are minuscule and somehow easy to fix, but I trusted my trainer and his recommendation. My expectations for being talked down-to by another nutritionist were completely shattered the first time I met Brandon! He let me tell my story and share what I had tried for diets and workout plans and what the results were. He asked questions and took notes along the way and was truly interested in starting me on a new path, rather than retracing past steps. He also shared with me his story and personal motivations for being a nutritionist and trainer, which made me feel comfortable that he has a personal vestment in this field rather than just a career.
After the initial meeting, Brandon stated that getting my stress under control was essential for my health – but he didn’t leave me stranded with that being his only guidance! He ordered a food sensitivity panel, put my workouts on pause, and introduced me to thermal cycles to help my body regulate stress. My food panel uncovered that I have high inflammation responses to four food groups, including two I never had thought of, and Brandon was quick to establish an action plan for me to avoid those food groups and supplement with items to help reduce my chronic inflammatory responses. After two months of eating within the guidelines Brandon had set, I had lost 10 pounds and gained a ton of energy (all without working out). He consulted with my trainer to establish a new workout regimen to meet my goals of toning before my wedding (which was four months later). Ultimately, I gained the 10 pounds I had lost back – because 5% of my body mass converted from fat to muscle and with substantial strength and endurance improvements! I highly recommend Brandon Woolley as a nutritionist and trainer! He treats the body as a total system and has first-hand experience with how sensitive that system is to changes in stress, food, hydration, sleep, and supplementation. He is not simply consulting from textbooks, although he is constantly reading the latest nutrition and health research and trying out strategies for himself. I’ve never felt embarrassed or shamed by him when I have slips in my plan and he always helps brainstorm ways for me to get better about staying on track. He has a direct and open personality that quickly makes him a friend as well as successful health guide. I am still amazed at the amount of change my life has undergone in just 6 months because I met Brandon!

I trained with Brandon for over three years. He is brilliant at what he does! When I first started with Brandon, I was working 70-80 hours per week at a sedentary and highly stressful job. While I was not overweight, I was very out of shape. Our first goal for me “was to put more meat on my bones” without gaining fat. Initially, I had trouble getting to the gym and was not willing to challenge myself sufficiently to make progress. Brandon did a great job encouraging me to stick with it and push myself. He was there for me every Wednesday at 5am and always gave his one hundred percent despite the early hour.
