Brandon and Joe talk through the science behind why stomach fat is so stubborn and weight seems to be visibly lost easier around the arms, face, and neck, and how to eliminate fat from your midsection.

In This Episode:

  • Women are predisposed to having a harder time losing weight around their midsection because of childbearing.
  • We talk about the science behind why it is difficult to lose weight in our stomachs.
    • Too much sugar
    • Alpha verses beta cells in our love handle area.
    • We are going to see changes in our face, arms, and legs before the belly because they have a lot more alpha cells.
    • Leptin is also a culprit. It makes it hard to feel satiated and therefore you eat more.
    • Stress – as cortisol increases you store more fat.
    • Not eating enough, a hypo-caloric diet.
  • There could be an epigenetic component to storing fat in your midsection as well.

Some things that can help eliminate fat around your midsection.

  • Increase your fiber intake.
  •  Healthy fats
  • Focus on your sleep quality
  • Green tea instead of coffee

Quotes from This Episode: “When we get poor sleep, insulin levels, blood sugar levels go crazy. And also the part of our brain, the prefrontal cortex that separates humans from every other species gets disconnected from the amygdala, which is the caveman brain. So when we lack sleep, we have no impulse control. We can’t say no to the cookies.” Brandon
